LENA MYKYTYN
Lena passed away peacefully on February 20, 2020 at Bethania Personal Care Home. She was 91 years old.
Left to cherish her memory are sister Jean Grynol of Winnipeg; nephews Joe (Eileen) Kolopenuk of Kelowna, BC; Peter (Nina) Kolopenuk of Westaskiwin, AB; Ray (Michelle) Grynol of Winnipeg; nieces Susan Grynol of Winnipeg and Priscilla (Jim) McLeod of Sherwood Park, AB.
Lena was predeceased by her parents Peter and Mary; brothers Bill (in infancy), John, Nick, Metro, Mike, Steve and Alex; sisters Catherine, Anne, Nellie, Doris, Pauline, close friend and sister-in-law Christina and nephews Alec and Wayne.
Born in Chatfield, Manitoba, Lena spent her early years helping out and working on the family farm. Even after she moved to Winnipeg, where she lived with her sisters Doris and Nellie and worked for the majority of her career as an Administrative Assistant at Fraser Sand and Gravel, Lena still maintained her connection to the farm. She often travelled there on weekends or holidays to help other family members by tending to the cattle and to the garden, repairing equipment and buildings, mending fences, and doing all the other necessary chores to keep the farm running. Never one to shy away from hard work, Lena always approached every task with cheerful enthusiasm.
Her nieces and nephews all fondly remember her kindness, fun-loving spirit and sometimes playfully mischievous nature.
As a devout member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Lena had faith in the Bible and its promise of resurrection to life on a paradise earth where pain, sickness and death will be no more (John 5:28, 29; Revelation 21:3,4).
The family would like to thank the members of staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for their compassionate care for Lena during the last fifteen months. Also, sincere thanks go out to the members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation who cared for and supported Lena. She loved to connect with her friends from the Kingdom Hall.
Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a graveside service at Lena’s interment at a later date.
