LINDA ELLEN PICARD
Tragically on the morning of April 7th Linda Ellen Picard’s life was cut to short. She left behind her son, David Picard, sister, Karen Taylor, her death was pre-deceased by her husband David Picard senior and mother Elizabeth Ellen Luten.
Linda was born in Winnipeg on February 19th, 1954, she was adopted at the age of 1 years old, with her curly golden locks, chosen by two very loving and deserving parents. In 1960 she was promised a baby sister, so every day after school she would come home and ask, “is my sister here yet”. Finally, the day came and three-month-old Karen arrived.
As a resident of Lions Manner, she involved herself in all group activities, and was loved by staff and residents alike. Her days were filled with intricate colorings, always looking forward to gathering with the other residents over meals. She had a real zest for life, who wore her heart on her sleeve, and never said a bad thing about anyone.
As a young child, she spent countless hours playing cards with her little sis¸ and again as of late, when she would visit. Growing up, the family spent numerous hours in Birds Hill Park swimming and picnicking in the summers. In the winter, the two of them, would skate on the rink in the back yard, and on the winding frozen creek at Kildonan Park.
As a young teen her and Karen spent untold time listening to music, dancing and singing, in the basement, to some of her favorite artists like Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Monkeys, and Peter Paul and Mary.
Sundays, we would often gather as a family, over roast beef and popover dinners out her Mom’s gazebo. Those were some of her niece, Amanda`s, fondest memories, and how appreciative Linda always was, for that time with her extended family.
If she missed anything about her life before the nursing home, it was her cats. Growing up we had a chocolate point Siamese cat named Pinkle Purr, with quite the personality.
Shanghai restaurant, now closed down, held special memories for our family, we spent many a Birthday celebrating yet another year older and our love of Chinese food. Although the decor never changed in 25 years, the food was always the best.
As it turns out her love of the color purple is a family affair, her mother, her sister, her niece and grand niece all love it too.
Funeral service will be held at Wojcik’s Funeral Home {1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB} on Friday, May 3rd at 11:00 am, followed by a like luncheon with the burial to take place afterwards at Brookside Cemetery {3001 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB}.
WHEN I LOST YOU
I wish I could see you one more time,
Come walking through the door.
But I know that is impossible,
I will hear your voice no more.
I know you can feel my tears
And you don’t want me to cry,
Yet my heart is broken because
I can’t understand why someone
So precious had to die.
I pray that God will give me strength
And somehow get me through…
As I struggle with the heartache
That came When I Lost You.
