Peacefully after a lengthy illness and surrounded by family, it is with deep regret we announce the passing of Lorne Stanley Hancox of Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday January 3, 2018 at Oakview Place at the age of 81 years. Lorne is survived by his beloved wife Jessie (nee Arthur) of 54 years of marriage; son Calvin (Tammy); daughter Donna; grandchildren Jared (Kristy), Janessa (Kyle), William and Kaitlyn and great granddaughter Kinsley; brother Cliff (Trudy); sisters Lyla and Lavina (Earl); brothers in law James, Bruce (Debra), Edwin; sisters in law Denise, Myra, Elaine, Pat (Nick) and numerous nieces and nephews who all had their special nicknames that are still with many of them today as well as various relatives and friends. He was predeceased by son Trent, brothers Ralph, Wallace, Glenn; brother in law Frederick and sister in law Noel. On March 2, 1936 Lorne was born in Dominion City, MB to William and Grace (nee Jamieson). He worked for the Department of Highways for 30 years. In that time, he earned a Civil Engineering Technician and Technologist Degrees which took his family to Thompson, MB in 1970. Lorne worked on many road projects that lead to the accessibility to many communities in Northern Manitoba. After retiring in 1991, he and Jessie moved to Winnipeg, MB. He enjoyed watching his grandsons curl and granddaughters play hockey. Lorne loved cooking and enjoyed all animals. In keeping with Lorne’s wishes there will be no formal service. A private interment for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
