Louis is survived by his loving wife Isabel (nee Thompson); children Jeff (Tracey), Jackie (Wes), Colleen (Keith), Nicki (Rob), Dan (Heidi); grandchildren Tim (Amanda), Jessica, Justin, Andrew, Bobby, Stephanie, Tyler, Christopher, Alex, Taylor and Luke; great-grandchild Austin; brothers Aime and Gilles (Edith); sister Berthe; sister-in-law Marcelle; the Thompson and Kleysen families as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Xavier; mother Anna, and siblings Marcel, Denis, Pauline, Raymond and Rita. Dad was born and raised in Headingley where he worked side by side with his father Xavier, brother Gilles and later his son Dan, on the family farm that was homesteaded by the Caron family in 1880. Farming was not only an occupation for Dad, it was a way of life. In 1969, he married Isabel Kleysen. Dad not only fell in love with Isabel but also with Jeff, Jackie and Colleen who came as a package deal. He always loved a deal and this was the deal of a lifetime. The love affair was mutual and Dad proudly took on the role as father. Nicki and Dan (the second litter) followed in the next few years. He was an incredible father to his five children. Nothing brought more joy to Dad than his 11 grandchildren including the imminent birth of his 12th in December. Jellybeans and golf cart rides were abundant when the grandchildren visited Grandpa at the farm. A surprise dose of hot mustard or making Smarties appear from behind their ears kept the kids on their toes. The kids will cherish memories of Grandpa singing his special songs to them and surprise visits from Santa Claus at Christmas. Always smiling with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, Dad had a legendary sense of humour. Even the grandkids were not safe from his practical jokes. Dad had a zest for life. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting trips to South Dakota and pickerel fishing with the boys. He was passionate about snowmobiling. Dad owned and operated Caron’s Cat Shop, one of the first Arctic Cat dealerships in Western Canada and also established the first Arctic Cat racing team in Canada. Dad had a passion for anything with a motor, but it had to be a Ford. He was known for his black F-150’s and countless restoration projects, be it old Lincolns or his prized ’57 Thunderbird. His home in Palm Springs gave him the opportunity to wander down back lanes, always on the hunt for his next project. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street. The family wishes to thank their extended family at the Charleswood Care Centre for the wonderful care provided to Dad over the past six years. Special thanks to Deb for always being there for Dad and for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Foundation (Louis Caron Bursary for St. Charles Academy) or a charity of choice.
