MARGARET CHAMPION
(NEE JANSEN)

Margaret Champion (nee Jansen), former wife of George Hedenstierna, peacefully passed away on the morning of Friday June 10, 2022 at Simkin Centre Winnipeg.
She was born in Rosser Manitoba on May 29, 1925 on the family farm to Dutch immigrants. She was the youngest of the family, daughter to Johan and Zwaantje, and sister to John, William, and Edward; all of whom predeceased her.

She moved at a young age to the new Jansen family farm in Headingly and lived there until she was about 16 years old.

Following the death of her father and then about a year later her mother, Margaret left high school in grade 11 and moved to Winnipeg to live with her uncle. At age 16 she enrolled in Success Business College and learned secretarial skills. These skills led to employment with the Canadian government and eventually to a job at the Canadian Legation in Stockholm Sweden and, at the Legation in Holland.

While in Sweden she met George and he followed her back to Winnipeg. They married in 1950 and had son Mark in 1953 and another, Daniel, in 1956.
She was a housewife and later resumed working in clerical capacites. She and George divorced in about 1971.

She met and later married Alan Champion in about 1980. They had several happy years together and they bought a lot in Hillside Beach where they built a year-round cabin. Meanwhile she continued working and retired while with the RCMP. Subsequently she moved yearlong to Hillside Beach and she and Al lived there until his death in about 1987. She continued to live in Hillside for a few more years and then returned to Winnipeg.

In 1993, her grandson, Isaac Hedenstierna, was born to Daniel and his wife, Chantal Simard, and was a great delight to Margaret.

After returning to Winnipeg, she lived independently until she was about 95 years old. On Easter 2020 she broke her hip and subsequently needed to be placed in a care home and was later moved to her care home of choice, the Simkin Centre.

Finally, it all became too much, and it was time for her to go.

She leaves behind her sons, Mark and Dan, daughter-in-law Chantal, grandson Isaac; nieces Lynda, Sharon, Carole, and Patricia (deceased); nephews Doug and Richard (deceased); their kids
and grandkids.

According to Margaret’s wishes, no formal service will take place.
