MARY ANNA KENT June 29, 1929 – May 29, 2016
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, Mary Kent, in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Victoria Hospital. She is now at peace with our dad who predeceased her in September 2009. Mom was born June 29, 1929, the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Thomaschewski. She married George Kent on August 4, 1951 and together they raised five children; Rosemarie (Marshall), Bernard (Diane), Marianne (Randy), Andrew (Kathy) and Paul (Heather). She was blessed with eleven grandchildren; Adam (Heather), Pamela, Matthew, Christina, Teresa, Alicia, Bradley, Stephanie (Andy), Jason, Curtis and Kyle and was the proud great-grandmother to Riley. She was looking forward to welcoming her second great-granddaughter in June. Also left to cherish Mary’s memory are brothers and sisters-in-law Anton and Cordy, Frank and Pat and Chris, sister-in-law Bernice as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Frances, in 2011. Mom was a great cook and stay at home mom. She was active in the church, volunteer community and greatly enjoyed ten pin bowling and bridge. She was the bowling secretary on many different leagues throughout the course of her life. She and Dad square danced and travelled extensively throughout the United States and Germany. Mom was very proud to be a lifetime member of the Victoria Hospital Guild having attained 3000 hours of volunteer work. Family was important to Mom and we always looked forward to the annual Christmas gathering of our families. It was a time to celebrate and catch up with our extended families while enjoying good food and laughter. The family wishes to thank Dr. Zaki and Dr. Bovell for the care they provided to Mom over these past few years. Thanks also to the staff of 5 South at Victoria Hospital and especially Matt, Wendy, Michelle and Christine who made Mom’s final days easier for her and for our family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway at Manahan Avenue, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Barry Schoonbaert, presiding. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. Interment will follow in St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, 826 Crescent Drive. Pallbearers will be Mary’s grandchildren. Catholic education was very important to both Mom and Dad and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Maurice School, 1629 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2G6 or to a charity of your choice.
