MARY (JEAN) SUMMERS
August 11, 1935 – November 2, 2016
   On Wednesday, November 2, 2016 Jean passed away after a brief illness at the age of 81 years.   Left to mourn are Jean’s sons, Rob and Brett (Krista); grandsons, Sean (Janique) and Jordan (Chantal); great-grandchildren, Keira and Sabastian; as well as extended family and many relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Doug; and daughter-in-law D’Arcy.   Jean was born in Coutts, Alberta and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. In her later teenage years she followed her big sister and hero, June out to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jean settled in Winnipeg because of her deep love for her nieces. Jean and Doug wed in 1961, and proudly raised their sons in St. James. Jean worked in the real estate business for many years, making several enduring friendships. After retiring, she and Doug became snowbirds and spent twenty-five winters in Weslaco, Texas.   Children and underdogs were Jean’s two keen interests. She loved and treasured with all her heart her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had an extraordinary affection for her three oldest nieces, with whom she maintained close relationships until the end of her life. She also loved and enjoyed the visits of June’s younger children. Jean will be remembered as being very generous. She was involved in several community initiatives in Texas that benefited children in Mexico. She loved to laugh, and was a great audience for all our mostly self-deprecating stories.
