MARYELLEN EDWARDS
October 2, 1951 – January 4, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Maryellen, on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Maryellen was born in Edmonton, Alberta. She moved to Calgary with her family in 1959 and then to Winnipeg in 1965. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. Maryellen worked as an administrative assistant for several organizations including Manitoba Health Services and Unisys, until she retired in 2016. In 1974, she gave birth to her cherished daughter, Michelle. Those who knew Maryellen recognized her as a warm, dedicated, and selfless daughter, mother, sister, auntie, and friend. Most recently Maryellen was an excited and adoring grandmother of her precious grandson Peter. Maryellen’s community involvement was extensive and included Community Living Manitoba and the Manitoba Special Olympics, as for many years she was mentor and caregiver to younger brother Michael. Maryellen’s faith and her dedication to the Catholic community led to roles as a Minister of the Eucharist at St. Ignatius and religious education assistant at St. John XXIII parishes. Her loyal and positive personality touched almost everyone she knew. Her attention to detail, and her ability to always complete the job with empathy and compassion will be greatly missed by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter Michelle Edwards (Matthew Heffer and first grandson Peter John Heffer); her siblings: Maureen Kuntz, Valerie Edwards (Philippe Mailhot), Jim Edwards, Kevin Edwards (Sandi Caputo), Barbara Bell, Mark Edwards (Suzan Hassan); her nieces and nephews: Teresa Fingland (Sean, Joey, Megan), Scott Kuntz (Aynsley, Tyson, Spencer), Jacob, Stephen and Matthew Bell (Lynn), Paul, Danielle (Steven) and Alyse Mailhot, Alixe Edwards and Kelly Edwards (Jessica), and many friends and extended family members. Maryellen will be joining in heaven her deceased parents Peter (2014) and Margaret (Stanton) Edwards (2005), brother Michael (2003), twin sisters Margaret and Mary (1953), and Michelle’s grandmother Nettie Paré (2017). Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Special Olympics Manitoba on CanadaHelps.org or by mail: 145 Pacific Ave #304, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6. Maryellen, you touched our lives in such a special way. We will love you always, we will miss you and carry you in our hearts forever.
