MELANIE LORIN LEGGE

MELANIE LORIN LEGGE

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our dear daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and friend, Melanie, on January 30, 2023.

Melanie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her parents, Lisa and Ken, her brother Brendin, Nana Mooney, Grandma Legge, her aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She will be reunited with her Papa Mooney and Grandpa Legge.

Melanie grew up in St. James, where she attended Lincoln Middle School and Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. Melanie was the ultimate water baby. Her love of water started at an early age. She would spend countless hours diving for loonies in her grandparent’s pool. Once enrolled in swim lessons, she advanced through the levels so quickly that we had to find another option. That is when she became a competitive swimmer with the St James Seals and later the Manta swim club. After graduating, Melanie passed on her love for swimming by becoming a lifeguard and teaching kids how to swim. Mel was famous for hiding little notes around the house, and they would bring a smile to your face when you found one. Melanie was a kind, caring person with a heart of gold. She loved the summer, being by the water, working out and spending time with her dogs.

Melanie struggled with addiction and mental health issues. She never wanted to be defined only by her addiction and mistakes. She was a good-humored, intelligent girl who fell into its grip. She would light up the room with her smile and stunning blue eyes, even while struggling with her demons. You were so hard on yourself, constantly worrying, comparing yourself to others, and thinking you were not good enough. We wish you could have recognized the beauty and strength that everyone else saw.

You will forever be our princess. Rest in peace, beautiful girl. We hope you finally find the peace you so desperately searched for.

A private celebration of Melanie’s life will take place at a later date.
