MERVYN KRUPKA

April 1, 1935 – March 20, 2018

Mervyn passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

He is survived by his wife Agnes; his children Colleen, Jacqueline (Gerry), Mark (Lisa), Maureen (Brian), Annette; his grandchildren Sasha, Aaron, Dylan, Carly, Rachel, Nicholas, Trent, Reanne, Jordan; and his great-granddaughter, Isadora.  Mervyn is also survived by his sister Dorothy and her children; Cathy, Jeff and Jason.  He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary Krupka; his brother-in-law Russ Nawolsky; and his son-in-law Lee Walker.

Mervyn was born in Bienfait, Saskatchewan. He spent his early years at the M & S Mine and completed his post-secondary education in both Saskatoon and Estevan. Merv and Agnes met at an “Easter Monday Dance” and began their married life first, in Swift Current, followed by Estevan.  In 1966, he accepted a position as Radiation Surveyor at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), and the family then moved to Pinawa, Manitoba.

Pinawa was a great match for Merv’s appreciation of nature and animals.  He created many wonderful family memories of canoeing, fishing and picnicing throughout the Whiteshell area, and in the backyard, he built skating rinks, a fire pit and planted beautiful gardens.

In 1986, after his retirement from AECL, Merv and Agnes moved to Winnipeg.  With his quick wit and genuine interest in others, additional friends were easily made. He enjoyed spending time visiting at the local coffee shops and chatting with neighbors.  Merv enjoyed driving, whether it was to tour the car lots that sported the latest vehicle line up or along the country roads to check out the crops.

Mervyn spent the past year living at the Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home.  The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff for the excellent care and compassion provided to him.

A service will be held in memory of Mervyn on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 10:30 am in Mary, Mother of the Church Parish located at 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, MB.  Respectfully, flowers are declined. However for those who wish, a donation may be made in his memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society,        45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3.
