Michael Hammond

September 19, 1935 - June 27, 2015

MICHAEL GILDERS HAMMOND
September 19, 1935 ? June 27, 2015

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Hammond on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the age of 79 years. Mike was a much-loved husband to Anne; father to Sarah (Jim) and Jane (John); and granddad to Ali, James, Sianna and Emmalee who will all miss him dearly.
Mike moved to Canada with his wife and daughters in 1967 and went straight to work at Bristols and Boeing. During his early years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mike and family always had wonderful holidays going camping, canoeing and cross-country skiing; he always did the driving on the road trips to the mountains and loved traveling with family from England.
Mike and Anne took many visits home to England. He couldn?t wait to drive a standard car and speed around the country lanes of Dorset ? it wasn?t unusual for him to come home with a speeding ticket after one of these outings!
The 1990?s brought Anne and Mike into retirement, leaving them time to visit Kenora, Ontario to watch James play hockey and Ali figure skate, and to visit Calgary to watch Sianna and Emmalee play volleyball. He loved every minute watching and spending time with his grandchildren and they could barely wait to see him either.
Mike was known for being a great entertainer; he played the piano or keyboard by ear and could play anything from 1940 to 1970. After his retirement, Mike volunteered at Riverview Hospital playing for the residents on Tuesday afternoons. Everyone loved him and his old songs that he would play.
You have touched many hearts in your great life and we will all miss you so much, Mikey.
In compliance with Mike?s wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held.
