It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Kalynuik on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the age of 84 years. Remaining to forever cherish Mildred’s memory are her son, Ernie (Carla); grandchildren, Cailee (Kyle), Stefan, Jared. Brothers, Matt Baydock (Jean) and Ernest Baydock (Stephanie). She was predeceased by her husband Alex; parents Steven and Daisy Baydock; sisters, Elsie Michasiw (Daniel), Anne Samaniuk (Sam), Gladys Stefanishyn (Mike) and Mary Wolochatiuk (Steve), as well as brothers, John Baydock (Rose) and Mike Baydock (Marie, Ella). On October 4, 1932, Mildred was born in Mears, Rossburn Municipality, Manitoba where she grew up, attended school and met the love of her life, Alex. They were married in 1952 and were delighted when their son Ernie was born. Mildred and Alex bought their first home on Toronto Street in Winnipeg. In 1967, they built a new home in St. James where they lived most of their lives. Mildred spent many years working in the hospitality and restaurant industry as well as the Manitoba Liquor Commission. She and Alex had a wonderful life surrounded by many friends and relatives with whom they spent many hours playing cards, dancing and socializing. Mildred loved to entertain and made everyone feel welcome in their home. She was a great cook and always made sure that no one left their house without a lunch or a taste of some of her homemade cooking and baking. She loved gardening and was proud of her flower and vegetable garden. She spent many hours harvesting, canning and generously sharing her vegetables with relatives and friends. Mildred was active in the St. Basil’s Ladies League where she made many friends. She enjoyed attending many of the grandchildren’s recitals and sport activities. She and Alex loved to travel in their earlier years, highlights of their trips were Thailand, Mexico, USA and the Maritimes. Divine Liturgy will be Celebrated on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Street, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Michael Kwiatkowski and Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM, presiding. Interment will be held in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Riverview Health Center.
