MYRNA MARIE MCKAY

FEBRUARY 24, 1943 – JANUARY 18, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Granny, Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt, and Friend. Myrna Marie McKay (nee Ross), on January 18, 2024, at the age of 80 passed peacefully with her family by her side.

Myrna leaves to mourn her two sons Dean McKay (Shelly McKay) and Miles McKay (Shelley Orvis). Grandson’s Jeremy McKay (beloved dog Nina) and Branson McKay. Also, by her dear Daughter-in-law Cynthia McKay (nee Ferland) and (beloved dog Murdock).

Myrna was predeceased by her husband Herbert (Herbie) McKay, her parents Alfred and Rose Ross. Siblings; David McKay, Jeanne McKay, Pauline Beaudin. Sisters-in-law Irene Ross, and Linda Ross. Brothers-in-law Norman Carlson, Del Kellsey and Robert Tigg.

Myrna is survived by her siblings Alvina Kellsey, George Ross, Clifford Ross, Bernadette Tigg, Rachelle Ross, Clarence (Lucille) Ross, Wilma (Gerard) Maurice, Christine Ross, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Myrna was a kind pleasant humble woman who loved her family dearly.

Myrna and Herbie grew up in St. Eustache, MB., where they met and fell in love after a couple of years dating, they were married on November 10, 1962. Together they worked hard to build their home in St. Eustache and raise their sons Dean and Miles, until Herbie’s untimely passing on March 2, 1988.

She was proud to help with her two grandsons and watching them grow into the young men they are today. She enjoyed many family road trips to California, Las Vegas, Calgary to visit family and she liked going to Grand Forks or Fargo with Cynthia & Jeremy to shop.  Mom loved our family BBQ’s and going out to shop for new books to read and yarn to knit treasured masterpieces for her family.

Myrna was an avid reader and knitter; she enjoyed her home in St. Eustache and spending the weekends in Winnipeg with her family from time to time.

Myrna had a very special bond with her first-born grandson Jeremy McKay; they enjoyed spending time together grabbing lunch after shopping sprees, at one of her favorite restaurants, Red Lobster.

Myrna was also very proud of her second born grandson Branson McKay, especially with his recent accomplishment of a short story Shadow in the Pines he wrote that was published in Juice 22 a speculative issue “coffee book” through the University of Winnipeg.  Branson and his Granny enjoyed talking about what his current activities were and going out for a bite to eat together.

Myrna will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her dear friends Olive Pahl and Cecile McKay and the members of St. Eustache Metis Elders coffee club who meet once a week.

Our family would like to extend thank you to all the staff; surgeon’s, doctors, nurses, and aids during the last days she spent on GD3 at Health Sciences Centre, we appreciate all your care and compassion.

Cremation has taken place, there will be a graveside service in summer of 2024 at the St. Eustache cemetery where she will be placed with her late husband Herbie.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Health Sciences Centre foundation.
