Norah Joy Kornelsen nee Hall/Young

July 5, 1933 - May 15, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce that on May 15, 2025 our mom, Norah, passed away after a brief stay in hospital.

Norah was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 5, 1933. As a young adult Norah moved to Vancouver with her parents and started her bookkeeping career at Wawanesa Insurance. Shortly after both Norah’s parents would pass unexpectedly and she moved back to Burlington, Ontario where she met her husband, John Hall. John and Norah had two children, John Robert Jr. and Loreen Joy and together they decided to move to Winnipeg to raise their family.

John passed away in 1986 after a brief battle with cancer and Norah re-married Pete Kornelsen in October 1991. Pete and Norah enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s sporting events, playing golf and travelling across the United States and Canada often picking a route that would lead them to Alberta to visit family.

Sadly, Pete passed away in February of this year and mom became ill shortly after. Norah was being hospitalized for pneumonia when she passed peacefully after spending just eight nights in the hospital. Although we were told she had stage IV cancer, we believe she died of a broken heart as losing two husbands was just too much to bear.

Norah leaves behind her children; Rob and Candice (Colton, Dominique, Hudson, Nash, Spencer, Taylor and Lauren), Lori and Brent (Zak, Mallory, Logan, Clark); her stepchildren, Tim and Guylaine, Sheila, Sharon and George (and their many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren).

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Sturgeon Creek 1 and the amazing nurses and doctors at the Grace Hospital for their compassion and the never-ending supply of ice cream for Mom. A very heartfelt thank you to the lovely Hospice ladies who gave my mom a voice and allowed her to pass with grace and dignity.

A private service will be held later this summer where mom and dad (John) will finally be reunited.

Rest in peace Mom. We love you to the moon and back.
