OLGA  ARMIT

(nee Demcheson)

1929-2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear beloved mother-in-law, “great grandma”, sister & friend at Grace Hospice March 23 after a 5-year courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her, sisters Mary Vesel, Elsie Coupe, Violet Lenos, Dianne Wakaruk; brothers Metro, Peter, the entire Green family; daughter- in-law Eleeta; sister and brother-in-laws, nieces & nephews, plus many special friends. Predeceased by her husband Ron (1973), sons Kerry (2021) and Glenn (2022) and brother Tom.

Olga was born in Dauphin and settled in Winnipegoses area where she received all her schooling in the local schools, staying on the family homestead to help with family duties. Assisting her siblings to ensure they had a great start in life, this began her journey of putting others ahead of herself. She learned skills necessary to stretch every dollar and cook with the skills to not waste, utilizing leftovers for another meal.

Olga ventured out into the work force in her early 20’s to Regina where she started in the accounting field where she self-taught herself the skills to succeed. She met her husband Ron in Regina and married in September 1952 after a short dating period. Together they purchased their only home at 411 Collegiate St. In Winnipeg. Ron joined the Winnipeg fire department while Olga stayed home to be the care giver and home maker. An excellent cook, gardener, sewer, knitter. With all these self-taught skills she supplemented Ron’s hard work to start raising their two boys. They enjoyed going camping, swimming, boating and travelling to visit relatives & friends.

Ron passed away when the boys were younger. Olga didn’t feel sorry for herself, she went and got a job with the credit union and later at Sears where she formed a group of friends.

Olga & new neighbour Alva Green became close friends just shortly after Ron’s death which became a mother/daughter relationship. Seldom a day would pass that the Greens and Olga didn’t have some type of visit.

Olga joined the St James United church, became a part of their auxiliary a devoted member until the church closed.

Olga loved to travel and enjoyed many groups bus trips to the casinos always being careful to come home with a dollar or two. She enjoyed the bigger trips with friends as well. The highlight trip was going to Great Britain to see Princess Di and the Royal family residences.

After many excellent gardens and a well-manicured lawn her home was in need of a major makeover for her to enjoy. After several agonizing weeks talking with Alva and other family members, she made the quantum leap to move into an apartment where she enjoyed 10 great years at 410-455 Westwood Drive making more true friends. The last five years, while enjoyable, she was fighting a battle she knew was tough having watched Alva lose her battle to cancer.

She had so many great true fiends that kept her fighting while telling all her favourite phase. I AM ALL RIGHT while suffering silently to maintain her independence.

Rest in peace our love you deserve to be in your everlasting life in heaven adjacent to Alva, your brother Tom, Glenn, Kerry and Ron.

At Olga’s request there will be no service.

Thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre and Grace hospice for the professional & loving care she received in her short stays, thank you.

She will be dearly missed, a void that cannot be filled, we move forward better people just from knowing her. A positive approach to life and always thankful for the slightest assistance.
