Pat use to tell me so many funny stories about his unusual life experiences. I particularly liked his stories about his high school teaching experiences in Northern communities. He also saw humor in so many life experiences (through his sometimes cynical - but accurate - perspective). Before a punch line, he would sometimes lean in, pause and have this wry smile. He was a great story teller.

As a friend of Carol and Bill Beitzel I had the opportunity to chat with Pat at Nick’s house where we were all invited. It was also the day I got to know Pat more as a scientist and as a friendly person. The pleasant afternoon ended with singing. As we held our glasses together he sang me a line of the Eucharistic Prayer he said he liked of his Latin era:'Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem'.May Lord the Almighty grant him now the everlasting peace he longed for.Tokoure

Patrick enjoyed nature and shared his knowledge and experience with all his neighbours. Our wood ducks are a constant reminder of his presence. He will be missed.

We're so thankful to have gotten to know this man. He truly inspired us to push forward in our education. He is the reason why I'm passionate about science. He was such a hilarious man, we'll always remember how fortunate we are to have met you. We've looked for you countless times. Now that I've finally found you, it's too late. We hope you'll be there at our wedding in spirit. That's one of the reasons we've been searching for you, and because we missed you. It's nice to finally see your face again, even though it's on the Internet. The Split Lake students you've taught will always remember you. <3 Thank You For Everything.

Patrick was very instrumental in assisting to diagnoSe me to have a swallowing disorder when I was a young man some 30 years ago. Because of Patrick I understood my illness and have been able to live with it still to this day. Thank you. You have left your mark on this plain of existence. You knew your calling. That in itself is a gift.

I know that through Patrick's efforts and determination he personally changed the lives of three of his students by gaining them access and funding to the Deep River Science Academy in Ontario. A very prestigious science academy that only a handful of students are chosen out of the thousands that apply. Two of these three students have continued on to post secondary education, in large part to Patrick's teachings. Patrick always believed in challenging his students and having them work towards their academic potential. He is still spoken of with fondness by the staff and community of Split Lake. Many were saddened by the news of his passing when informed. I will miss my friend, and yours. He was an unforgettable man, that I was lucky enough to cross paths with for a far too brief a period of time.
