I have fond memories of trips to the lake with Paul, especially Lake of the Woods, and sitting around folk festival campsites. Usually outdoors and always engaged in conversation. On my annual visits back to Winnipeg, after more than 20 years in Japan, Paul always made an effort to see me. His friendship also extended to my parents and family, and for that I am very grateful. He was a fine host and took a genuine interest in people and what they were up to. Thanks Paul!

I was fortunate in that I had recently re-connected with Paul just a few weeks ago, some 30 years since I last said, 'whip'.He was the same as I remembered him to be. Helen, Doug, Laura.Sorry to hear of Paul's passing. Had a nice visit with him a couple of years ago @ The Viscount Gort. We were having breakfast & he was doing a paint job in the restaurant. Our thoughts & prayers are with you @ this time.

Helen, Doug, Laura and Ray, We were very sorry to hear about Paul's passing. We had only met Paul a few times but we know he was a loved son and brother and we wish you comfort in this difficult time.

As kids we spent many hours playing in that back lane. A constant train of activity between Jim and Paul's houses. Paul and I were constantly involved in some science activity and the Bannerman basement was our headquarters. As years passed, we played hockey and then got into skiing. From kindergarten to University, the Bannerman house was our home away from home. Mr. and Mrs. Bannerman made us all feel comfortable and welcome in their home. Nobody was judged and we all felt safe down in that basement playing pool. Paul stayed in contact with me after I left, but sadly our friendship became lost in the jungle as so often happens when distance separates old friends. I remember Paul as not belonging to any clique or group, but as a friend to everybody and drifted easily from group to group and was universally loved for his easy going, non judgemental demeanor. I do believe that can be attributed to his wonderful parents who were friends to all of us. I do know what it is like to lose a child and no matter the age, he is still your son. I wish to offer my sincere condolences to Mr. and Mrs. B. and Laura. When I am truly down and discouraged, I often let my mind drift back to those days with Whip, Jim and the old school. Memories of those backlane antics allows a smile to overcome my sadness. The entire Bannerman family has deeply enriched the memories of many of Whip's old buddies. Thankyou. One of my fondest memories is of Paul skating backwards, almost in slow motion, and victimizing the oncoming forward with his slow but deadly accurate sweep check...the whip! Meanwhile, you Doug would be on the sidelines beside my own dad, Ernie, clapping your heavily mittened hands together crying' 'way to go!' Paul was a gentle soul and I was truly saddened by the news of his passing. My most sincere condolences to you, Helen, and Laura.

I became friends with Paul when I was fourteen years old. I always admired his exceptional taste in music. He really went outside and found artists that no one else was listening to. He also had an insatiable love for nature, and was never happier than when 'at the lake' - wherever that happened to be. he was the most generous person I have ever met, and always optimistic. I will miss him sorely. My condolences to his family.

My wife, Jackie, and I are truly saddened for the news of Paul's passing. Our condolences to family and friends. We have many fond memories of times with Paul. He and I golfed most summers, at least a game or two, over the past two decades. He attended many of our Canada Day parties and enjoyed sitting around many bonfires with us, talking, laughing, sharing.One memorable time I shared with Paul, about 17 years ago, the two of us went on a weekend canoe trip to Nopiming Provincial Park, fishing, camping, paddling. It was around this time that he gave me a Swiss Army knife that I still cherish to this day. Paul loved good food and frequently requested a couple of items from our party menu, homemade spring rolls, phyllo wrapped jalapeño pepper poppers, and good old southern fried chicken.I remember when Paul moved into his house, and several birthday events, when we enjoyed fun times at his place with good food, drinks, music, and friendships flowing!We'll miss him and will cherish, along with many of our mutual friends, our memories of him.Travel onward friend.
