PHYLLIS RAE ATKINSON

(NEE NEILANS)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother (Funna) at the Charleswood Personal Care Centre on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the age of 102.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Patricia Benson, Joni Williams (Clyde); grandchildren, Jeff (Jenn), Mike (Danica) and Scotty (Mona); and great-grandchildren, Braden (Kiandra), Kieran (Chantelle), Connor, Larkyn, Drake, Dylan, Ethan and Chloe.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gord (2011) and son-in-law, Doug (2017).

Mom was born on December 24, 1920 in Stettler, Alberta. After completing grade 12 in Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan she moved to Winnipeg. In 1943 she proudly graduated as a registered nurse from the Winnipeg General Hospital.

Mom and Dad were married on October 7, 1949. They moved into their family home on Churchill Drive with a beautiful river view. Upon Dad’s retirement they moved permanently to their Loni Beach home in Gimli. It was here that Mom had a particular interest in the variety of birds that would come to visit their bird feeders and birdbaths. She also looked forward to her weekly golf games with her girlfriends at Arnes Golf Course. Gimli was a special place where they both enjoyed many happy years together until Dad’s passing.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

The family wishes to thank the Charleswood Personal Care Centre staff for the wonderful care they provided to Mom since January 2020. Their compassion, commitment and ongoing communication was so appreciated, and we are very grateful to all of you.
