RICHARD ALEXANDER JONES (DICK)
1936-2025

Dick passed away peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 shortly after celebrating his 89th birthday.

Surviving is his sister Beverley of Winnipeg, and brother Ronald of California. Dick was predeceased by our parents Bertha and Richard Jones, older sister Joyce Passek of Ohio and younger brother John of Winnipeg.

Dick speed-skated at Carrothers Community Club and won Canadian Boys Bantam Championship in Sudbury, Ontario in 1947. He enjoyed baseball, curling at both West Kildonan and Granite curling clubs, and golfing at Elmhurst. In his later years he was an avid nature photographer spending hours at Fort Whyte and Assiniboine Park taking photos of birds, insects and flowers.

Dick became a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Khartum Temple of Winnipeg June 16, 1979.

Wonderful fun times were spent with Terry Morrow and his dad George over the years here in Winnipeg and in Toronto.

Dick was a pretty good cook – great dinner parties were enjoyed over the years with our dear friends, George, Terry & Sandra, Enid Vic and Sara, Betty Dennis and Michael. He amazed us all when he made a 3-tier, tri-color jellied salad.

Dick had beautiful penmanship and was a talented artist. He worked as an advertising salesman for the Winnipeg Free Press, Project Manager for Paul, Phelan & Perry Advertising and lastly ran his own small ad agency until he retired.

Extra-special thanks to our friend, Betty, who was our life-saver for arranging and coordinating his care for the last few years.

A special thanks to the nurses and staff on the 5th floor Alzheimer’s unit of Golden West Centennial Lodge for the patient, kind and compassionate care they provided our brother.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life is planned.

Donation suggestions in his memory would be to Fort Whyte, Assiniboine Park, Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
