Thank you to everyone for all the beautiful words. My dad's passing has been beyond difficult but with the love and support of friends and family it makes it a little bit less painful.

To the girls he was Opa, to me, a true friend. I recall the walks along the tracks, the evenings on the deck and the many occasions just chilling on the couch with Kristin and Rick. I could never have wished for better friends to cross my path and I have been blessed to have had three years of unconditional friendship. Rick’s wonderful acts of kindness will never be forgotten. He was one of the most generous, kindest people I’ve known. Rick was an especially giving person and treated Katrina and Gabi like his own grandchildren. They loved him so!!!! There is a void in our lives with his passing. Kristin, Andrea, Shannon and family - be strong, love one another, may God bless and comfort you.

Kristin, I was so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. I remember him with much fondness as a really sweet guy - one of the good guys. This must be terribly difficult for you and the family. My thoughts are with you. If you need an ear or a hug at any time, I'm here. Lots of love, Karrianne

It's been many years since I have seen Rick, but I have such fond memories when I think of him. Rick was a Big Brother to my nephew Brad and that meant so much to our family. My sincere condolences to your family.

To Andrea and Shannon: My deepest sorrow for the loss of your father, and to Ashley and Hailey, I am pretty sure that your Opa is still sending you love and watching over you. I knew your dad for close to 25 years, and I still hear his voice, telling some joke, laughing and laughing some more. I remember his smile, and will never forget what a wonderful person he was - his kindness, gentleness, and the immense love he carried within and shared with so many. I feel blessed to have known your dad and I will never forget him. You were always the Lights of his Life, and his love for you was an amazing thing to see. My thoughts are with you during this sad time. Love and Peace to you, Cindy

Josie and I are deeply saddened and in shock to hear the news of Rick’s death. I feel a great pain in my heart... I had known Rick for 30 years. He was a remarkable human being. He possessed the virtue of altruism; always concerned in the well-being of others and not expecting personal gratification. His friendship and respect was invaluable at work and outside. We shared so many many good times.... and yes ... few not so good, but, as always, I will treasure the many good ones. To Shannon, Andrea and Kristen our deepest sympathy. We are so very sorry for your loss.Tony and Josie Carta

I was introduced to Rick about 13 years ago and as being relatively new to Winnipeg at the time he became one of my first true friends and was someone's company that I really enjoyed, whether it be out for a round of golf, or a BBQ at Rick and Kristin's house. Sadly I have not seen or talked to Rick for over a year and was shocked when I learned of his illness and very sudden passing. Kristin, my thoughts and prayers are with you. With love, Randy Valpy

I have known Rick since 1995. As my marketing agent, he was always very encouraging and concerned about my business image. Your friendship and guidance would be truly missed. My deepest sympathy goes out to Kristin, Shannon, Andrea and the girls. Sincerely Bob Hobson

Although it was years ago (2007 and before) I still thought about Kristen, Rick and their pups quite regularly. Rick was a very nice fellow, I'm sorry he had to leave so soon. Thinking of you still. -Megan B
