ROBERT (BOB) GERALD COOTE
On Wednesday, September 7, 2016 Robert (Bob) Coote, beloved husband of Linda, passed away peacefully and with family at his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at his home in Winnipeg. Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his wife of 44 years of marriage, Linda; two sons, Rob (Ashley) of St. Albert, Alberta, and Jeff of Winnipeg, Manitoba; grandsons, Lochlan and Finlay of St. Albert, Alberta; sister-in-law Lori of London, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Isabelle; and brother, Danny. On November 14, 1951, Bob was born in Winnipeg. During a vacation to Ottawa in 1971 to visit a friend, Bob decided to stay there, and met Linda, a student nurse, while working as an orderly at Ottawa Civic Hospital. Bob and Linda were married on September 2, 1972. In 1975 Bob graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Business Administration, and he and Linda moved to Calgary, Alberta where Bob began work in the IT department of the City of Calgary as a programmer. After the birth of their son, Robert Alan, they moved back to Winnipeg in 1977, where Bob worked for Inter City Gas (Manitoba Hydro) and would be there until his retirement in 2008. In that time Bob and Linda also welcomed their son, Jeffrey Daniel, in 1984. Bob enjoyed fishing with friends and family on the many lakes of Manitoba’s Whiteshell Provincial Park and Lake of the Woods area of Ontario, and summer vacations at his and Linda’s favorite spot, Andy Lake. He and Linda also loved to travel during their retirement together, visiting Cuba, several trips to Mexico, the United States, along with visits to Alberta to spend time with their grandchildren. In compliance with Bob’s wishes no formal Funeral Service will be held. A private gathering of friends and family in celebration will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all the palliative nurses and doctors, especially Nurse Trish, and Dr. Nicole Bristow for their care and compassion and ensuring Bob was comfortable in every way. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bob’s preferred charity, Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 1M3. A very good friend of mine, told me something the other day
I’d like to pass it onto you, ‘cause I believe what he said to be true
He said “We’re here for a good time, not a long time
So have a good time, the sun can’t shine every day”
