RONALD RUDOLF BRAUN
(1942 – 2022)
With heavy hearts, the family of Ronald Braun announces his passing on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Ron was born on April 2, 1942, in the Old Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up on the farm near Starbuck and attended school in Starbuck and Gretna, Manitoba (MCI). He graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba.
Ron and Virginia Kihn met at his brother Erwin’s wedding in 1967 and were married on April 17, 1971, in Brunkild, Manitoba. The day was so warm that they drove through the town with the top down on their blue Pontiac convertible. Fifty years later, they would celebrate their last anniversary in person with their daughter Tiffany and son-in-law Eric while receiving many well wishes online.
Together, Ron and Virginia raised three daughters while farming the land he had purchased from his parents. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ron was elected as treasurer and sang in the choir for many years. He also volunteered to help bring community projects to life at the rink and Starbuck School. Ron loved woodworking, computers, and traveling across Canada.
When Ron’s health began to decline, the family decided to rent out the land and pursue something new. After working a tax season at Dale Accounting, Ron and Virginia purchased the business in 1989. In 1994, they sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg, where they ran Dale Accounting alongside Stardale Insurance & Autopac. Ron also drove a Pembina Trails school bus for two years before he had to retire due to his declining health. The family decided to sell Dale Accounting in 2019, and after retirement Ron continued to love working on his family’s genealogy and reading books online through the Winnipeg Public Library.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Alexander Braun and Katherina (Tina) (Dyck); parents-in-law, Jacob (Jack) Kihn and Olga (Boroski); and sister-in-law Sylvia Leask. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Kihn) as well as three daughters and their families: Tracey Braun and granddaughter Kaylee; Stephanie (Sacha) Larosiliere and granddaughters Sunna (Pall), Delphine, and Elloise; and Tiffany (Eric) Krievans. He is also survived by his brother Erwin (Donna) Braun; by in-laws Ed (Suzanne) Leask and Rosemary (Gary) Epler; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital in Emergency and on the hospital ward. Virginia was by his side when he passed.
Cremation has taken place by Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel. Honouring Ron’s wishes, there will be no service.
