Ross Madder

 Ross Allen Madder, peacefully after a very brief illness, with wife Sandra and family by his side, it is with deep sorrow that we announce his passing at Grace Hospital on Friday, March 25, 2016, at the age of 79 years. He was born December 21, 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.                 Remaining to forever cherish Ross’ memory is his wife of 55 years, Sandra (nee Berg); his sisters, Thelma James (Allan) and Olive Wharf (Bill, deceased); as well as numerous treasured nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Margaret Madder; sister Dorothy Clark and her husband Gordon.                 Ross was a graduate of the University of Manitoba in Civil Engineering in 1959. In his long career he was employed with the Federal Government Department of Public Works (small craft Harbours) working on Federal Infrastructure, such as Lake Winnipeg Dock Systems. Ross was also employed with Parks Branch, Province of Manitoba working on the construction of Hecla Island Provincial Park Lodge. He was later employed with the Engineering and Construction Branch for the Province of Manitoba and worked on Park Engineering projects throughout Manitoba in 1980. He retired from the Province of Manitoba in 1995. Ross was retained by the Water Resources Branch in 1997 – 2006 to Project Manage the Red River Valley Flood Control Projects. He was a member of the Beaver Ionic Lodge #25, enjoyed many years in Toastmasters Club, Winnipeg Robert Burns Club and a long-time member of Young United Church.               Ross treasured his trips to Scotland, England and Ireland with Sandra and for many years hiking in the mountains of Alberta and British Columbia, but most of all their summer home on Lake of the Woods, Ontario. He was a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humour, patience and keenly interested in the natural world and its environmental protection. Ross was a knowledgeable man and avid reader of history of peoples and science to be learned about the planet.               On Thursday, March 31, 2016, Ross’ Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Young United Church, 222 Furby Street at Broadway, Winnipeg, with Rev.
