When I opened my phone and saw Rudy’s face I just had to give my phone a kiss. Rudy was deeply loved by my entire family — even my father John Martens (Rudy’s uncle) immediately began to reminisce about all the wonderful times we shared when he heard of Rudy’s passing. Rudy was our “cool” cousin, the first to hear and have CDs, a lover of high fidelity music and far, far more memorably a pianist with talent and emotional intuition that simply cannot be taught. We had hoped to maybe hear him play again for our Tante Annie as he did at Uncle George’s service. Even though we were then little girls, my sister Heather and I remember him sleeping over at our house (the big city boy) and bringing me “girlfriend” gifts of chocolates and roses to my everlasting delight — neither that kindness nor Rudy are ever to be forgotten. I will likewise also remember my Mom’s horror/amusement when Marena’s beloved kitties knocked a vase of roses into the pre ious grand piano and the water came seeping out onto the keys. I will remember the TransAm, the Corvette, the generosity in letting teenagers house sit. But most of all — that wonderful smile and sense of humour. Rest in peace, Rudy.

krystena and family my thoughts and prayers are with you. We we`re all saddened at the tennis club hearing about the loss of our friend and long time tennis partner Rudy. We all shared many special memories of Rudy fondly remembering his friendly smile that never wavered even after tough competitive tennis games. Rudy was a special tennis friend to many of us and time won`t erase our fond memories of our time spent with him on the courts. Bless you and your family. Randy Cullen

I've always admired Rudy's wonderful musical talents. He had such a marvelous ear for what music should sound like. Back in 1980 Rudy sold me my Bose equipment which I used for many years, When he and I were about 10 years old, he came to visit us in Swan River for a week in summer. Most of the time he played with Ron & Tom, but I remember him asking me, "Do you like it when girls wear red nail polish on the long nails?" I told him I didn't care one way or the other. He then burst forth with "I don't like that at all. It's just awful!" Good memories. May God comfort his loving family. (Laura & Lorn)
