RUSSELL WILLIAM HULMES

JULY 23, 1951 – APRIL 24, 2023

Peacefully after a lengthy illness with cancer, with his wife by his side, Russell passed away on April 24, 2023 at Palliative Care St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 71 years old.

Russell will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years, Sharon; daughter Sterrin (Miles); sons Jason (Jessica) and Matthew; granddaughters Olivia, Alaina; brother Dan (Marlene) and cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Vicky.

Russell was born in Kenora, Ontario. After high school Russell decided to join the Navy and after a couple of years he had an honorable discharge and moved to Alberta to find work. Russ was a truck driver for a while then went into mining in Northern Alberta. In 1978, after the urging of his brother Dan, he entered the field of Iron Working (which turned out to be his life time career). After he accomplished his Journeyman’s Papers he moved to Winnipeg where he became a respected Iron Worker and a life-time member of Local 728.

He made many special friends, special friends, Mike Lamarre, Rob Duarte, so many to mention. He was also a mentor to many.

Russ also managed to get his son Matthew into the “Iron Worker World”, which made him very proud.

Russ enjoyed the company of family and friends, having some laughs, listening to some tunes, tipping a few and maybe even doing a dance (LOL). He also like to fish and loved just taking a drive to wherever.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Date is pending.
