Ruth Burak passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on December 7, 2022, due to complications from a recent battle with heart disease. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband and the love of her life, Steve, who died in 2007, and her frequent companions John Gabel and Allison Drysdale, who also passed away recently. Ruth is survived by her sister Jean Hatton, her nieces and nephews Bill, Catherine, Rob, and Janet, and her cousins Brenda, Alex, Winnifred, Dorothy, and Dennis.
Ruth was born Mary Margaret Ruth Skinner, daughter of Rod Skinner and Queenie (Boyd). The Boyd family provided Ruth with many aunts and uncles in Winnipeg, 3 of whom remained in the area to raise families, contributing to a large group of cousins who were so important in Ruth’s long life. Ruth also maintained important friendships from her career with the Winnipeg School Division, mostly as a student guidance counsellor.
Ruth and Steve enjoyed travel and were fortunate to spend many holidays in Latin America, Europe and later on cruises all over the world. Their last home was in St. Andrews, where they benefitted from a wonderful friendship with her neighbors, George and Irene, among others in the community.
Ruth often got together with family and friends and treasured weekly dinners at Allison and Dennis’ home.
We are heartbroken that Ruth is no longer with us. Her friendship, wise counsel, travel stories and most of all love of life will be sorely missed.
