Left to mourn Ruth’s passing is her husband Reid; children Linda (Jeff Reese), Stephen, Jennifer, Ashley of Palo Alto; James (Elaine Bradbury), William, Hayley of Guelph; Mary (Jim Hrichishen), Christopher, Laura, Melissa, Daniel of Winnipeg; Susan (Marcos Alvarez), Lucas, Eric, Jonah of Ottawa; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Diane Ereaux, and her ever faithful companion, Sean. Ruth was born in Montreal on January 16, 1933; daughter of Dr. Lemuel and Mrs. Florence Ereaux. She graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital in nursing in 1953, where she was head nurse of the Neonatal ICU nursery. Her kindness and special gift with infants would later be treasured by her children and grandchildren. In Montreal, Ruth met her partner and love of her life of over 56 years, William Reid Waters, a young doctor from Regina, Saskatchewan. She and Reid married on June 23, 1956 at the Notre Dame Cathedral. They lived in Montreal for several years before moving to Winnipeg in the 1960s where Ruth helped Reid launch his practice in Plastic Surgery and was actively involved in the financial management of Plastic Surgery Associates and the Western Surgery Centre. She supported Reid and raised their four children with such patience, grace, enthusiasm, energy, kindness and unwavering and unconditional love. With her intelligence and extraordinary creativity, Ruth mastered everything she touched or did; she was an amazing cook, master quilter, knitter, gardener and business women. With seemingly infinite energy, she also volunteered for the Children’s Aid Society, Junior League of Winnipeg, University of Winnipeg Women’s Club, was a board member of the Manitoba Opera and an avid supporter of the arts. Ruth’s love of nature and the lake was fostered as a child at Lac Denis, in the Laurentians. She had spent every summer for the last 50 years with family on Mackies Island, at Lake of the Woods, where many happy times and fond memories reside with family and friends.
