Sandra Bottle

March 27, 1939 - February 14, 2017

SANDRA ARLENE BOTTLE

Sandra Bottle (nee Thorogood) died bravely and peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 with family by her side.   Left to cherish Sandra’s memory are her husband Bill; daughter Barbara (Colin Steele); son Ross (Bobbi Bottle); brother Ray Thorogood (Camilla); and five wonderful grandchildren.   Sandra was born on March 27, 1939 and grew up in Elmwood, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Bill Bottle. They were married on June 6,1959. Sandra took risks and bravely tackled things that others might not have and that sense of independence and adventure was instilled in both of her children.   In 1991, their passion for new places and people led Sandra and Bill to Mojacar, Spain, where they lived for thirteen years. She was most content on the beach, picking little sea-washed shells stones and twigs and using them to adorn pots, jewelry, and frames. Their time in Spain was very special for both Sandra and Bill, however the pull of family in Winnipeg was great.   In 2004, Sandra and Bill returned to Winnipeg, and resided on Brock Street for several years. In recent years, Sandra lived at Deer Lodge Centre, where she never failed to exceed ordinary expectations and often assumed the role of fierce advocate for other patients.    Sandra has been described accurately as highly tenacious, and incredibly loyal.  She showed courage in making the dream of moving to Spain a reality, just as she showed great strength and determination over the past few years. She was a life-long learner, always willing to help educate others, as well as herself, mentioning very recently that she has learned something new every day. Sandra was, above all, a caring person who constantly sought out new opportunities to share of herself and brighten the lives of those around her.   A celebration of Sandra’s life was held in the chapel at Deer Lodge Hospital on Thursday, February 23, 2017.   A dear friend described Sandra as “resilient and strong, honest and loyal, helpful, kind, and so very brave.” We can continue to honour those special qualities through our kindness, compassion and love for others. If friends so wish, donations of money (or gifts of time) may be directed to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Death is a return to earth.
The universe is like an inn.
