Serle and I worked together at Inland Cement, back in 1970, as equipment attendants, on a rotating shift basis. Being about eight years my senior, he served as a good example of working habits. His black lab, Sparky, was a valued member of his household. Over the decades, we did meet "by chance" a few times, and could easily pick up a conversation. More recently it was my habit to phone him betimes, and the last conversation we agreed that I would stop by his house this summer, and sit outside for a chat. Regrettably that will not happen. Rest in peace, bro!
