SHARON EVANS
September 23, 2013
SHARON LESLIE EVANS It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful daughter Sharon on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the age of 54 years. Left to forever cherish Sharon’s memory are her parents, Garry and Sheila Evans; brothers Blaine and wife Carolyn Evans; Grant and wife Valerie Evans; niece Ashleigh Evans and partner Dave Steckly; great-nephew Colton Steckly; Uncle Wayne and Aunt Karen Evans; Aunt Eileen and Glenn Daly; Aunt Averill and husband Alan Petrie; Uncle Lou Joyal; cousins Carol and Harvey Wood and family; Diane Joyal and family; Kim and Laurie Short, Christy Evans and family, Lesley Zipp and family, Paul Zipp and family; great-uncle and Aunt Ray and Donna Andert; her wonderful friend of 40 plus years Penny Lickley and husband Jim and family; Penny’s Mom Shirley (Sharon’s other Mom); and her much loved pets Bennie and Peaches. She was predeceased by her grandparents Ollie and Lloyd Evans and Sadie and Bill Copeland; cousin Greg Evans; Aunt Jean & Uncle Ernie Zipp; and pets Wallie and Rosie. On May 21, 1959 Sharon was born in Winnipeg. We moved to Brandon in 1963 and she received her early education there. Then, the family moved to Calgary and Regina and back to Winnipeg in 1971. Sharon attended Lakewood School, Hedges Junior High and John Taylor Collegiate. While still in school she worked part-time as a chamber maid at the local motel, at McDonalds and in the candy department at The Bay. She started working full-time at MTS, then the Air Base and the Airport and finally at the Winnipeg Police Department as a Civilian Office Worker. Sharon was elected to the Winnipeg Police Association and served nine years loving every moment of it. She ended her working days as the Volunteer Co-ordinator Victim Services Section. She loved each and every volunteer dearly. Sharon loved to knit and crochet. Her Mom will miss the good times they had on their yearly shopping spree in Grand Forks. She loved her house and was so proud to be able to host Christmas Dinner for the whole family last year. A Celebration of Sharon’s life will be held on Monday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road, with Winnipeg Police Chaplains, Det. Helen Peters and Det. Sgt. George Labossiere, presiders. Special thanks to CancerCare, Dr. Danuik and nurse Tracy, Dr. Kowoluk and nurses Debra, Rose, Wendy and all the girls in the Blood Unit. You are the best! Also, a very special thanks to the Winnipeg Police Association, Mike Sutherland and Janice Schmidt. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
