STANLEY FREDERICK FINCHNovember 18, 1939 – August 17, 2016
Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 77 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. He was admitted in early April until his passing on August 17, 2016. Stan is survived by his wife, Sheila of 49 years, his children, Pamela, David (Crystal) and Timothy (Amber) and his grandchildren Cassandra, Jewel, Tiffani, Lincoln and Nolan, as well as numerous relatives in the old country – Lancashire, England. In 1939 Stanley Frederick Finch was born to Corporal Stan Finch and Margaret Foley in Preston, England. His father was a decorated paratrooper in WWII. Unfortunately, he lost his mother as a young boy and his oldest sister Winnie took care of him and his siblings. While in his teens, Stan apprenticed to become a stone mason. Dad emigrated to Canada in 1968. His wife and daughter left Preston to start their new lives in Winnipeg the following year. Stan became a well-known member of the Union of Bricklayers where he spent his entire career working on numerous Winnipeg landmarks including The Legislative Building, The Forks, Fort Garry Place, Prairie 360, Westminster Cathedral and many more. His retirement years were spent watching his grandchildren grow, seeing every possible football match on TV and keeping a watchful eye over his good neighbours on Woodlawn Street in Deer Lodge. Our family would like to express our thanks to the Grace Hospital and homecare staff for their kindness and care over the last year. A private family memorial will be held.
