Stella Barta

August 15, 1934 - May 21, 2016

STELLA NELLIE BARTAAugust 15, 1934 – May 21, 2016
On Saturday, May 21, 2016, Mom, Baba, left Deer Lodge Centre and entered Heavens Gates at the age of 81 years, ending her struggle for breath.   Left to remember this wonderful lady are daughters Joann (Glenn) and Jeannie (Moe); grandson Kris (Janet); sister Jean Stefanyshyn; sister-in-law Christine Barta; brother-in-law Mike Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special mention to Dorothy Galuszka, Jill Galuszka and Sandy Hetzel who were an important part of Mom’s life. She was predeceased by her siblings Frank Barta, Nellie Turchen, Mary Setlack, Stan Barta, Rose Sawka and recently her companion and friend Edmund Obozinski.    We often referred to Mom as being “a Jack of all Trades” as there never appeared to be a task too large for her to tackle. Throughout her life she held various jobs outside of the home and retired from Pineland Nursery after ten years of service.  Mom had a zest for life and would never be seen lounging around. It always amazed us to see her many talents. She could sew a beautiful garment from a scrap of material and create a wonderful meal using very limited ingredients and was always proud of her accomplishments. Stella was famous for her perogies and often made hundreds of dozens per week with the assistance of her sisters Rose and Mary to meet the demands.   Living in a small community, Stella understood the love of family and friends and the benefits of working together but was also determined to do it her way and referred to it as being independent not stubborn. She gave countless hours of volunteer work to the community over a 50 year span and the only thing she hoped in return was that everyone got along and that the events held were successful. Mom loved her morning coffee times with friends and in the last short while often mentioned how she missed this.   Mom looked forward to having a glass of wine on Saturday evenings with Edmund and Ted and whoever else took time to stop by. They both loved the company. Mom so loved her time spent with Edmund. Together they lived life to the fullest before health issues made it impossible to continue together and life took a turn.   A special thank-you to the wonderful staff at Deer Lodge Centre Lodge 4E for the care and comfort provided to our mom, she appreciated all that you did. Thank you to Dr. Greg Eschun, Hugh Chan, Wendy Desrochers and Jacqueline Lauzon for your support and kindness shown during Mom’s illness.   On Saturday, May 28, 2016, Mom’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Hadashville Recreational Centre, 45030 Provincial Trunk Hwy 11, Hadashville, Manitoba. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hadashville Manitoba.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptiste Roman Catholic Church c/o Box 48, Hadashville, MB, R0E 0X0 or Hadashville Recreational Centre, General Delivery, Hadashville, MB, R0E 0C0.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
