It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steve (Istvan) Csizmadia, devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend to many at the age of 84 on January 30 2025.

Steve was predeceased by his Daughter Susan (2005). He is survived by his wife of 64 years Connie who was by his side when he passed. Also survived by his Son Mark and Granddaughter Megan whom he adored.

Steve was borne in Gecse Hungary and grew up in Vaszar until the age of 16 when immigrated to Canada after escaping the 1956 Russian invasion of Hungary. He eventually ended up in Winnipeg where he met the love of his life Connie while they both worked at Perths cleaners Polo Park. Steve in shoe repair, Connie in dry cleaning. They married on August 28 1960.

Steve eventually opened his own shoe repair shop (Steve’s Shoe Repair and Sporting goods). He became successful with his skills in leather work and trouble shooting. He was well now for his amazing skill with leather and fabrics and was the Winnipeg Jets and many other go to guy for repairs.

Steve eventually took a new career bus driving with Winnipeg Transit but never gave up his love for repairing and creating with leather and fabric. Steve set up a small shop at home in the garage and could be found there any time of day or evening.

Steve was a proud Canadian and also a proud Hungarian celebration the culture working at Folklorama and the Hungarian House (Magyar Has). With so many relatives in Hungary the family trips back to visit were always amazing. Family and friends in Hungary were and are always in our hearts and prayers.

Steve was also long time member of the knights of Columbus. The Catholic Church was a major part of his life. Steve enjoyed time with his fellow Brothers and the fundraisers and can collecting. The fundraising helped fund several monuments and projects, he was very proud of being a Brother Knight.

Steve was a kind man who never seemed to say no to any job or challenge. He was always there for friends and strangers alike, able to repair almost anything!
