SUSAN GAREAU

January 20, 2013

SUSAN DARLENE GAREAU (nee SRIGLEY) April 13, 1951 – January 20, 2013 After a very sudden and brief illness, and with family at her side, Susan Darlene Gareau passed away shortly after midnight on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in Seven Oaks Hospital’s intensive care unit, at the age of 61 years. Susan kept a very close-knit group of family and friends, who are all shocked and saddened by her passing. She is mourned by her children Brigitte Pichon and Denys Gareau (Grant Partridge); grandchildren Sophie and Patrick Pichon; brother Gerald Srigley. She is also survived by husband Denis Gareau; and numerous nieces; nephews; brother and sisters-in-law. Susan is now reunited with those who predeceased her; her beloved mother Elizabeth McCormack (née Boal); older brothers James Alvin Srigley and Clayton Srigley; father Alvin Srigley; as well as her three boys who died during childbirth. In recent months Susan was making a courageous and astonishing recovery after suffering heart failure in 2011. She had regained much of her lost mobility, and was once again enjoying regular outings for shopping or to her workouts. To us, her children and grandchildren, she was more than Nana. She was our rock-solid support, best friend, number one cheerleader, and our everyday smile. Her loss leaves an enormous hole, but it is a hole filled to the brim with happy memories. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday evening, January 25, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg, with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. The family would like to thank Seven Oaks staff for their tireless care and compassion during Susan’s illness. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Richard Wojcik, Funeral Director of Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel Crematorium, is in care of arrangements 204 586 8668. Peaceful be thy rest, dear mother, ‘Tis sweet to breathe thy name; In life we love you dearly, In death we do just the same. When days are dark and friends are few, Dear Mother, how we long for you.   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on January 22, 2013
