I am sitting here in shock as I read about Susan's passing. We have been friends for many years. We have lived in BC now for 34 years and we were friends long before we moved. We spent a lot of time together in our younger years and when we were young moms and couldn't get together we would spend time on the phone discussing everything. The last few years we have connected by email but I stopped getting a response so I tried phoning and the phone was no longer in service. I thought maybe she was ill and couldn't contact me and I couldn't get a phone number for family. Tonight I checked online and am very sad. I will miss our connection very much but now I know that she is in peace. I do not know Susan's kids or grandkids but when we would talk she would share her love for her family. She was a special friend and was a blessing in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Cherish fond memories as I know you have many. May God be with you everyday.

I'd see Susan every 2nd day at the Wellness Institute. She always had a smile on her face even when she's outta breath from her cardio workouts. I gave her the idea of using weight lifting gloves to help combat the calluses she had developed in her palms. She bought pink ones loved them very much and always flashed them as I passed by. My fondest memories of you, Auntie Susan, are of your smile, that twinkle in your eye and your big heart. You welcomed me into your life and your home as a young girl and I always looked up to you. You took the time to get to know me and I remember many wonderful conversations we shared. You never treated me as a 'kid' but as an equal and I learned many life lessons through observing you and the people you surrounded yourself with. I enjoyed every moment spent with you and your two beautiful children. Brigitte and Denys, I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much you loved your mom. May she rest in peace.

I will never forget Susan. She was more than a co-worker to me. It was easy to share stories with her because she was so generous and truthful. I will miss her, but never forget her.

Sue My mind keeps going through the past remembering all the good times we've had of 40 years of such a wonderful friendship. The times we sat on the pier at Wpg Beach, going to Jane & Walter's, having a bit of Sherry, sharing stories, bingo, dinners at each other's homes, laughing about you trying to find Wilbur, laughing or crying together. Your door was always open and you always showed compassion, generosity, loyalty to family and friends. Your family was always number 1. The world was a much better place because of you. I will miss your warm smile and caring heart. Rest in Peace my good friend. Till we meet again

Dearest Sue. Knowing you all these years and being so far away, this comes as a terrible shock to us. It’s been a long journey from our teenage years and I’m so glad we’ve kept in touch,….visiting every summer, emailing back and forth and particularly your stay out here with us. Your compassion and support to your family didn’t stop with them; it extended to all who knew you. Your strong voice, humorous stories, positive take on life and your everlasting smile will be some of the memories we take with us. Sue, we’re going to miss you terribly.Love and prayers to Brigitte, Sophie, Patrick, Denys, Jim Brown and all the family who loved you so. There is nothing warmer than sitting at the kitchen table with the sun shining in or the stars peeking through the window and sharing stories, good times and laughter with special friends. Words cannot express the sorrow and shock Arlene and I feel at this time. You were always such a caring and understanding lady and we will miss you deeply. You always had time to listen and never judged anyone. Since we first met you all those years ago at Tec-Voc, we have had nothing but good memories between our families, and can see your strength in Bridgette and Denys. Through all your trials and tribulations you always came out on top and I wish that I had your attributes. Like Brenda and Susie said in their tribute to you; all the best times were at Winnipeg Beach every summer for over 25 years. I imagine you are catching up on the good old days with Mel right now 20 years after he, like you left us in shock. We love you dearly and will forever miss you. God bless you and keep Bridgette and Denys and Sophie and Patrick strong.

Sue, no words can express how I feel knowing I will not see you in this life on earth again. I know our paths will cross down the road. I have never known a more compassionate, caring and loving person than you. We go back a long way my friend and I will never forget this. We have had many wonderful memories and experiences we shared together while travelling through Manitoba and our every day life. We shared our sorrows and joys; and prayed and hoped that somebody would pick up as we sat on the dock in a northern Manitoban community. Thank you for understanding me so well and putting up with my 'Helenisms'. They will always remind me of the wonderful times we had together. Love Helen

I think Suzie may have spent more time in our house than she did her own when we were all growing up. The two families were so close back then, it was never unusual to find Suzie at our dinner table, or us travelling to her house to do the same. Always smiling and willing to share her thoughts on anything and everything - she was kind of like a part-time and second older sister who made me laugh, taught me to ice skate and was always there with a hug when needed. My thoughts are with her children and grand-children today. I hope you take comfort in knowing she was a light to many people and that is her legacy.

May your dear mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend Susan rest in peace and may her memory be eternal. To have such wonderful children as Brigitte and Denys and such wonderful grandchildren as Sophie and Patrick, she must have been a very special lady indeed. Farewell Aunt Susan,I first met you when I was a child, and although you were only 7 years older, I was so honoured that someone as mature and sophisticated as you would spend time with me. We had in depth discussions on home decorating, looked at catalogues and drooled over avocado green appliances. We debated the big question of the day-Beatles or Rolling Stones? There was always a strong connection over the years. You made the best tourtieres- just the way Pepere made them. Thank you for teaching Brigitte to make them just as delicious. You will be missed and never forgotten. your niece, Michelle

I don't think I've ever met such a happy go-lucky person in my life (even when things weren't all that rosy for you). I remember fondly our weekly swimming and dinner dates way back when. Your sage advice was always appreciated; your smile, a ray of sunshine. You will be missed but I carry with me very happy memories. Love you auntie Susan!

It is with deep sorrow indeed that this loss is affecting many people; Susan is a great person -- I have fond memories of her. I had the chance to work with her at AANDC -- she was very patient and very very professional in her work and ethics. She was smiling every day, was always positive and had always something nice to say to co-workers, and such a motherly figure for many. It is too bad that her retirement from work has to end that quick -- I just hope that she has not suffered much. My very sincere sympathies to the family and friends. I will always keep good memories of Susan. Goodbye...

Auntie Sue (Mama Gareau) You were such a loving, kind and caring person. My heart is broken to hear that you have passed and I never got a chance to say goodbye. I will always cherish our long talks and laughs and cries together. You were always so easy to talk to and I felt that I could share anything with you. I will never forget the long talks we had at the cottage at Winnipeg Beach and I always knew my secret was safe with you. You were like a second Mom to me. Rest in Peace Auntie Sue. Mama Gareau, you were such a kind generous and courageous woman. I will always remember the Sunday gatherings and boxing days at your house in St Boniface, not to mention all the summers at Winnipeg Beach. You always had a smile on your face.
