SUSANNE MOROZ

September 20, 2014

B. SUSANNE MOROZ (nee OWENS) May 8, 1949 – September 20, 2014 At the Health Sciences Centre after a short illness, with family by her side, Susanne died peacefully at 4:20 in the afternoon. She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Bill; son, Craig, his wife Ashkin, their daughter, Ava; daughter, Stephanie; brother, Kent, his wife, Myrna; sister, Judith, her husband, Gilbert Chartrand; nieces Madeleine and Adriana Chartrand; sister-in-law Iris Dubek, her husband, Jack; nieces Kim and Carla Dubek; sister-in-law Marilyn Moroz; nephew Michael Moroz; Guinn and McLachlan cousins; and many dear friends. Susanne was a Mother’s Day baby, the second child born to Ruth and Harold Owens of Portage la Prairie. She graduated from PCI in 1967, later moving to Winnipeg, where she and Bill met. They married on October 13, 1973. She graduated from the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1978, with the award for surgical nursing. She worked at the Health Sciences Centre, Misericordia, and Seven Oaks before starting her family, and in geriatric care after returning to nursing. She volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Board of Manitoba and with the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba. In her professional life, she was dedicated, hard-working, and conscientious. In private life, she was an avid reader, especially of the best in fiction, a skillful knitter, and a fan of British mystery drama. She enjoyed theatre with her friends and shopping, especially for home décor and for gifts. She loved her dogs, first Maisie and then Luca, and was always sure to give them their daily massage. Most of all, Susanne was devoted to the welfare of family and friends. She was the best and sweetest mother to Craig and Stephanie and she loved them with all her heart. She was tremendously proud of Craig’s new career in corrections and of Stephanie’s rising career in theatre. To many of their childhood friends, she was a second Mom. She could always be counted on to babysit her nieces. She was delighted to be a grandmother to Ava, and she was anticipating joyfully the birth this December of Craig and Ashkin’s baby. She took great pleasure in all the accomplishments of family and friends. She also felt deeply the hardships and suffering of others, wanting more than anything to be able to help, even in the midst of her own struggles. Hers was a sweet, loving, and generous nature. May she now rest in peace. A service of remembrance will be held at the Westwood Community Church on Monday, October 6, at 3:00 o’clock. Should they so desire, friends may make donations in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba, or a charity of their choosing.
