We just found out about Syd's passing. It is truly sad. I was the secretary at 402 Sqn when Syd was the Honorary Colonel. I enjoyed his visits. He alway kept my candy bowl filled with Werthers. He will be sadly missed. Our condolences to his family. Rest well, Syd

As a former student at Tec Voc in the early 60's my best memories of those days were the butter tarts. After 50 years of trying to duplicate them, I finally gave in and called the school for the recipe only to learn they didn't have it. Is there any chance you would be willing to share your dad's recipe -- if so I would be eternally greatful. I am really sorry for your loss, but his memory lives on in all his students.

Mr. Chapman was an inspiration and guiding presence at Tec Voc. He was a true gentleman and always had a kind word for us. While we were not one of his Culinary Arts students we know that those who were greatly benefited from his teachings. His butter tarts will live forever in our hearts if not our stomachs......

Mr. Chapman was my homeroom teacher when I was in grade 10. My homeroom was 1-C. I can always remember he and Mr. DeJong discussing what was going to be on the menu for the day. I also will remember the butter tarts, brownies and cheese buns. My late dad David Bain also knew him from his RAF days. I was glad to see Mr. Chapman being recognized for his teaching at Tec-Voc with a alumni presentation during one of our Sting dinners. My condolences to his family and friends.

Syd was the last of his kind. An officer and a true gentleman. He was always there at 402 Sqn, not just on cerimonial occational, but there in the ops room, ready to pass on another great yarn, or listen to our life's problems and offer sage advice. I valued his presence and heritage. He was an integral part of 402 Sqn and we will never find another as unique and supportive as Syd to replace him. Happy flying Syd!!! I know you are still with us and I will always have a special place in my heart for your memory. Brady Aubin, Maj (retired)

I knew Syd for 8 years when I moved to the apartment next to him. We became good friends. He was the most fascinating man and I never tired of listening to his stories. He always missed Mary and his sons so I know he is now in peace with them.My prayers go to the family.'Good Bye Dear Friend'

Syd Chapman was the teacher of the Tec Voc school cafeteria when we were grade 10 to 12 students, in the early fifties. He was loved by all the students, made great tarts, and ran the jazz band. We saw him at one of the school reunions and he hadn't changed a bit. He will be greatly missed. Our sincerest condolences go to the family.Joyce (Bemi) and Chic Seabrook

Sydney was a wonderful storyteller and we enjoyed his company very much. Yes he will be missed very much at the Villa. He was a very sensitive person and enjoyed making us laugh. Thank you for lending him to us for awhile. Love and sympathy.

I am shocked and saddened by Syd's sudden passing. He was clearly doing quite well when I last saw him in July. I will treasure the friendship I developed with Syd, and the times spent with him, in the last ten years during my time at 402 Squadron. He was a great friend and supporter of the Squadron, indeed a living treasure and link to the Squadron's illustrious history. I will miss him, as will, I am quite sure, all the members of 402 Squadron who looked forward to his regular visits and his stories. His memory and clarity of mind were remarkable. I extend my sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

In the eighties at a little restaraunt called 'The Teepee'. I had the opportunity to have Syd teach me the basics of cooking. To this day I still cherish the short time we worked together even though we lost touch. He was a great man. I will miss him. Cheers Syd you were an important part of my life.
