SYLVIA WARELIS
(nee Rozyk)
December 25, 1933 – May 29, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Warelis on May 29, 2024.

Sylvia is survived by Julian, her husband of 68 years, children Cheryl (Ric), Larry (Jocelyne), daughter-in-law Joanne, grandchildren, Sarah, Evan, Adam, Andrew, Lindsay, Aaron and great grandson Coen. Sylvia will also be missed by sisters Millie, Nadia and brother David. Sylvia was predeceased by parents Mary and Andrew, brother Nickolas and son Leonard.

Sylvia grew up in Ethelbert, Manitoba where she lived and worked on the family farm. Sylvia and Julian married in 1955 and farmed for several years in Ethelbert before moving to Winnipeg.

Sylvia and Julian lived in Charleswood for 55 years where they raised their family. Sylvia was a devoted mother and grandmother and relished time spent with her family. Sylvia kept an impeccable home, was famous for her delicious Ukrainian meals, and loved to dance; an activity she and Julian enjoyed immensely.

In addition to raising her family, Sylvia worked for the provincial government for over twenty years and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League at our Lady of Perpetual Help church.

Sylvia and Julian enjoyed camping in their motorhome and especially enjoyed taking their grandchildren on frequent camping trips full of bonfires, bike riding and berry picking. One of Sylvia’s joys was watching her grandchildren play sports. Sylvia kept careful track of all her grandchildren’s games so she and Julian could watch hockey, soccer and football games across the city.

In retirement, Sylvia and Julian also traveled extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Poland, Australia, and wintered in Honolulu for many years.
While we will dearly miss our wife, mother, sister and Baba, we find comfort knowing she lived a long and full life. The funeral service and interment have taken place. The pallbearers were grandsons Evan, Adam, Andrew and Aaron.

We would like to thank the team at Vista Park Lodge for the care and support they provided Sylvia, and our family, over the last several months.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or any charity of choice.
