THOMAS (TOM) ADDIS
It is with deep sadness we announce that, peacefully and surrounded by love, Tom Addis lost his courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 75 years.
Left to mourn Tom’s passing are his loving wife Eileen, his children Lisa (Larry), Jared (Angela), Trissy (Byron, deceased) and David (Annie-Claire) as well as grandchildren, Kiniw, Sara, Dylana, Wabun, Lewin and Ivor. He also leaves his brother Donald and sister Virginia (Bill) and his Brother of his Heart, Mel Brown. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Ardis Addis; his sister Patsy Addis Brown; sister-in-law Margot Addis and son-in-law Byron Matwewinin.
Tom was a hard-working man his whole life, starting with Addis Market Gardens, which expanded into Addis Greenhouses. He was a grain farmer, truck driver and later on in his working life, he was a school bus driver and custodial supervisor for Seven Oaks School Division. Tom was instrumental in expanding the West St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department and was Fire Chief from 1984 to 1988. He helped institute fire training for the department and helped lay the groundwork for the West. St. Paul Fire Department that exists today. Tom also won a gold medal in five pin bowling at the 2016 Senior Games in Brandon, MB.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 299 Balderstone Road, West St. Paul, Manitoba. Interment will be held at a later date.
Special thank-you to the doctors, nurses (his angels) and staff of St. Boniface Hospital E6. They made Tom’s last days as comfortable as they could. Also, special thank you to Mirela Stepic-Rhodes of Pastoral Care at St. Boniface Hospital for being there!
