Vivian passed away peacefully, with dignity and humour intact, on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Her two children, Lisa (Roger) and Rich (Becki); cherished granddaughter Jill; and Rich and Becki?s sons: Jake, Taryn, and Aidan will always remember her wit, her wisdom, and her love of sports.
Viv grew up in Starbuck, Manitoba as the sister of Bob and Fran, and daughter of Frank and Velette Owens. After finishing school in Starbuck, she went to teacher?s college in Winnipeg and worked for several years as an elementary school teacher before she married and started her family. Vivian was a skilled athlete ? competing in badminton, golf and curling, and was the glue that held the family?s sporting life together. Skiing, golf, tennis, waterskiing, and her beloved curling – she was good at them all, and passed along that love to both Lisa and Rich. She was instrumental in introducing a hugely successful junior golf program at John Blumberg Golf Course, and worked with junior curlers at Charleswood Curling Club.
Viv and her sister Fran had their families at the same time, and together created a very special family environment in which to grow up. She shared a unique bond with her sister, and that remained a special part of her life forever. Her nieces Fran and Norma, nephews Keith and David, and brother-in-law Colin were a very special part of her life.
A small graveside service will be held in Starbuck, Manitoba in late August. Viv asked that no funeral be held. Please contact Lisa at pearce.lisa1@gmail.com if you wish to be notified.
