Walter is survived by his wife, Irene Pauls; the mother of his children, Ella Born; children Angie Gledhill, Tannis Born, Kim Welsby (Mike), Darrell Born; stepchildren Virgil Pauls (Brenda), and Myron Pauls; grandchildren, Brian Blais, Bryce Gledhill (Shelly), Justin Born (Leslie), Sara Born, Corey Welsby (Ashley), Kayla Bower Smyth (Mike), Keith Born, and Gracie Pauls; great-grandchildren, Toran Blais and Roseann Welsby; surviving sisters and brothers, Anna Schroeder (Albert), Ernie Born (Carol), Marilyn Born, Cathy McKenzie (Don), AJ Born, Clara Penner (Eric); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. While residing at Eastern Star Chalet he was loved and appreciated for all the help and volunteering he did.
