WAYNE MARVIN JAMES BELL

August 24, 1946 – August 30, 2025

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Bell at the age of 79 on Saturday, August 30th, 2025 at the St. Boniface Hospital.

He was known as “Hooter” to many. His absence will be deeply felt by his wife Carole of 58 years, sons Michael and Ryan (Kayla), granddaughters Avery, Alyssa, Arya, brother Charlie (Tannis), brother-in-law Bruce, and his many friends from over the years. Wayne was predeceased by his parents David and Jo, sister Nancy, brother Garnet, sister-in-law Cindy, and in-laws John and Ruth.

Wayne grew up in the Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg and attended the schools of La Verendrye, Earl Grey, and Kelvin. He later moved to St. Vital to raise his family with Carole. He worked as a federal government meat inspector until his retirement. Post-retirement, he loved playing with his grandchildren, puttering around the house, and watching his shows. He also found time to work as a part-time delivery driver.

Wayne was the “gentle giant” of our family. He was known for his quick wit and kindness. Wayne also loved his sports. You name the sport, he could talk about it. But his passion was hockey. He was a coach, referee, dedicated hockey dad, and skilled player. His 1972/73 St. Boniface Mohawks team was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey HOF in 2019.

We would like to thank Wayne’s doctors and nurses, especially those at the Victoria and St. Boniface hospitals in his last few months.

Wayne was a man who wore many hats (and we also mean that literally). He had many interests. So in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity close to your heart.

Cremation has taken place, and a private service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, share a story, have a laugh, pour one out, cherish a memory.

Wayne was a special guy. We will miss him greatly.
