WAYNE WOLANSKI

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Wayne at the age of 81.  His life was a gift, a blessing and a treasure that we will hold in our hearts forever.

He is cherished by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna, daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Cory, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Stacey and precious granddaughters Kennedy and partner Luc, Maizie, Kiara and Khloe. Wayne will also be lovingly remembered by his brother Gordon and sisters Claudia and Marlene, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Wayne was predeceased by his parents Michael and Beatrice Wolanski, mother and father in-law Earl and Dorothy Land, brother Leonard, sisters-in-law Toni, Shirley and Valerie, brothers-in-law Barry and Jarvis.

Dad was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 6, 1941 and spent most of his childhood growing up in St. Vital with most summers spent at the family’s farm in Hadashville, Manitoba.

As a young adult he began his career at Kipp Kelly where he met his great friend Ron Lambert.  It was through Ron and his wife Terry, who was Mom’s close friend, that Dad met his soulmate on a blind date whom he later married on April 18, 1970.  It was shortly after this time that he started his 33 year career with Old Dutch Foods.

Post-retirement and being the early bird riser that he was he found his new calling as the lead grass cutter at South Interlake Golf Course.  At this time in his life he felt he now had more time to devote to volunteering with the Hemophilia Society of Manitoba.

Dad and Mom were blessed with 2 wonderful children, daughter Deborah born December 14, 1974 and son Michael born May 25, 1976.  It was shortly after Michael was born, that Dad and Mom decided to move from the city to St. Francois Xavier where they stayed until 2003 meeting so many amazing people, making new friends and memories.  He loved to go out snowmobiling, was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for many years, was on the Sno Golf Committee, helped coach hockey, was a Beaver leader and enjoyed meeting up with friends at the local community club on curling nights.

Some of Dad’s other favorite pastimes were spending time with his brothers and friends fishing, hunting and the infamous deer fry’s.  We can’t go on without mentioning the trips to South Beach Casino with close friends.

Anyone that knew Dad knew how much he loved to have fun and joke around.  There wouldn’t be a get together or family function without Dad announcing to the crowd “look who’s here”!

Once he became a Grampa, well that was a game changer.  The love he had for his four girls was indescribable. Whether it was going to watch swimming lessons, hockey, dance recitals, diving or softball he never missed any important moment in their lives.  He was so proud of “his girls”.

Anyone that knew Dad knew that when he was around his buddy Robert wasn’t far behind, and vice versa.  As original Winnipeg Jet season ticket holders, together they were first in line to secure their season tickets for the Jets 2.0.

For almost 20 years he enjoyed spending his Thursday nights playing crib at the Army & Navy #283 as an associate member.  This is also where he enjoyed the Friday night meat draws with Mom and meeting up with many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Wojcik’s Funeral Home, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg.

To our Dad and Husband:  Thank you for always being there in the good times and the bad.  Your strength, compassion and love will never be forgotten and we will always hold you close to our hearts.  We love you forever.  We love you for always.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hemophilia Society of Manitoba.
