At 13 months old, he faced the challenges of polio, a life altering event that defined him. His determination and positive outlook inspiring those around him to see beyond physical challenges.
He grew up in Wildwood Park, and summers were spent at Falcon Lake . He was president of the Vincent Massey student council, and Master of Ceremonies at various reunions. He was a member of Fort Garry United Church and looked after the Beaver program in the 1980’s along with other committee work.

He then taught clinical chemistry in the lab tech program at Red River College. His many career choices included, Manager of Gary Robertson music, and owner of the Wedding Gallery in the early 1990’s. His final career was with the Royal Bank.
Wesley’s zest for life was infectious. His wit and ability to make others laugh was shared with all. He loved music, all genres from classical to country, and he played the piano and banjo.
His love for swimming not only defied the odds but also showcased his spirit of adventure. His affinity for the water became a symbol of his ability to overcome obstacles and embrace the joy of life’s experiences. He represented Canada at the age of 17 at the Stoke Mandeville Games in the United Kingdom, the precursor to the Paralympics and came home with a number of swimming records and medals. He loved nothing better than being in the water and especially loved swimming the oceans of the world.
Alongside his wife, Gail, of 49 years, Wesley embarked on countless travel adventures, seizing each opportunity to explore new cultures, make new friends, and create cherished memories. Together they built a home in La Salle and for 14 years enjoyed country living.
Among his greatest joys were his sons, Christopher (Nishadi) and Scott (Magda) whose lives he touched with his guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. Wesley’s heart expanded even further with the arrival of his grandchildren, Jakub and Maja, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life. His love for them was boundless, and they were truly his pride and joy.
He was a true sports fan and loved watching the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He especially enjoyed attending the games in person with his sons and grandson where he roared with each play.
Wesley’s dedication extended to his role as President of the Post-Polio Network of Manitoba, and as a representative in World Support Groups across Canada, the United States and Australia. He emerged as a fervent advocate for those who faced the challenges of polio. He was recently appointed to the Human Rights Committee of Winnipeg. His commitment to raising awareness and offering support exemplified his compassionate nature. Wesley’s advocacy knew no boundaries; his dream of a polio-free world was a testament to his determination to leave a lasting impact on global health.
