WILFRED PHILIPOW

October 22, 2013

WILFRED PETER PHILIPOW July 14, 1945 – October 22, 2013 Peacefully, with his wife Shannon at his side, Wilf left this world on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Left to cherish Wilf’s memory are his pride and joys, sons Blake and Tanner, as well as sisters Alice Birch, Violet Clark, Shirley Bigelow (Don); brother-in-law, Neil Harder; nieces; nephews; and his extended families of Rousset and Bourgeous. He was predeceased by his parents, Olga and Nick and sister Doris. Wilf grew up in Carrot River, SK. and after completing high school made his way to BC where he explored the beautiful country until settling in Vancouver to work for C.N.R. In 1974 he made Winnipeg his permanent home and started his job with the City of Winnipeg where he remained until his retirement in 2006. He and Shannon were married in 1981 and have lived in their first home in St. Vital since then. Hunting and fishing were Wilf’s passions. He was a skilled landscaper and added beauty to many neighbourhoods with his visions. Wilf’s philosophy on life was the cup is half full’ and it was this positiveness that saw him through his illness and helped friends and family to share with him the time he had left. On October 10 he packed his humour and his smile up and took them to Riverview where he spent his last days. Shannon, Blake and Tanner wish to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Daeninck and Tracy at St. Boniface Hospital CancerCare and to the wonderful and loving staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre. A Celebration of Wilf’s life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 12:00 3:00 p.m. at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre, 26 Molgat Avenue. Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204 897 4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com.
