WILLIAM (BILL) JOHN ALEXANDER
SEPTEMBER 21, 1935 – AUGUST 14, 2025
With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Bill Alexander at the Charleswood Care Centre. He is survived by his wife Joyce (nee Laurie of Beausejour), his daughters Donna Alexander Zwicker (Terry) of Calgary, Arden Alexander (Ron Pidskalny) of Edmonton and son Bill Alexander (Elaine) of Stonewall, his grandchildren Jennifer Zwicker (Ethan MacDonald) of Calgary and John Zwicker (Julie) of Edmonton, his great-grandchildren Amelia and Benjamin Zwicker of Edmonton and William Alexander MacDonald and Eric MacDonald of Calgary as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Violet Alexander (nee Lacey) and Thomas Henry Alexander and his brother Ronald Alexander (Margaret).
He grew up in Weston and graduated from Tec-Voc High School. He immediately went to work for TCA later known as Air Canada as a machinist where he worked until retirement. He received a number of awards over the years for innovative ideas he suggested that were implemented by the airline. He was a 45-year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Like his father and brother, he was a lifetime member of L.O.L. 2569 in Winnipeg. He had also been a musical leader of a children’s flute and drum band sharing his love of music with youngsters.
Bill was a founding member of the Birdwarren Sanctuary for the Preservation of Wildlife, and a founding member of the Agassiz Outdoorsmen. Plus, for many years he and Joyce were actively involved in the Charleswood Garden Club several times proudly winning the Grand Aggregate silver tray for growing the most prize-winning vegetables and flowers at the annual community fair. He loved spending time in his large Charleswood yard with its expansive garden. He was excited to pour through seed catalogues in the winter, start seedlings in his basement and then tend to the transplants in his beautiful Charleswood property.
Bill made lifelong friends at work and in all his various activities. He was always giving a helping hand or fixing something for someone. And it gave him great joy to be the one to pick up the tab for a coffee or a lunch when out with family or friends.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Charleswood Care Centre. His years of care was exceptional. Thank you to all of you!
Honouring his wishes there will be no celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers perhaps consider making a donation to the Charleswood Garden Club, Ducks Unlimited or the Alzheimer Society.
